📦

Egg Collection & Lay Dates

  • Check the date range your eggs were laid in the Batches tab!
  • Best if used within 3–4 weeks after lay date.
🧺

How to Store Your Eggs

  • ❄️ Refrigerated: Store at or below 45°F (7°C) for best freshness.
  • 🌡️ Unwashed: Can be stored at room temperature (65–70°F) if kept dry.
  • 🚿 Washed: Must be refrigerated — washing removes the natural protective bloom.
🫧

How to Clean Fresh Eggs

Dry Cleaning: If lightly soiled, use a dry brush or cloth to wipe off debris.

Washing (if necessary):

  1. Use warm water (90–110°F) — never cold, as it can cause bacteria to be drawn inside the shell.
  2. Avoid soaking. Briefly rinse under running water.
  3. Let air dry on a clean towel.

How to Check for Freshness

  • 👁️ Visual: Look for cracks or discoloration.
  • 👃 Smell: If it smells bad when cracked, it's spoiled.

Float Test — place egg in a bowl of water:

  • Sinks flat Very fresh
  • Stands upright ~1–2 weeks old, still good
  • Floats No longer fresh — do not consume
